Code of Conduct sub-committee
Hi all,
At last night’s PhilMont board meeting, I was selected to lead a committee tasked with developing a code of conduct. Ed, KB3IV has already volunteered to join me, and I’m looking for 3 other folks. We have some ideas and I’ve developed a first draft we can play with.
If you’re interested, write back to me directly at jaysilber@... and we’ll set up a Zoom meeting to get us started.
Thanks and 73,

Yes Gwen, a couple of things have happened over the past year that could leave the club liable. Without going into details, it is clear that we need to be able to show our commitment to prevent members from committing acts that expose the club to potential litigation and subsequent financial judgements. The ARRL, and the International Amateur Radio Union have specific requirements about how we should be our best both on the air, and when representing Amateur Radio in general. Several events over the past year have violated those guidelines and PhilMont needs to demonstrate that we support those guidelines and that we expect our members to abide by them. The code of conduct we develop should be in line with the ARRL and the IARU and, perhaps, more importantly, encourage our members to be their best on the air, complying with both the spirit and the letter of FCC Part 97l

A Code of Conduct?
Why is one suddenly necessary? The club has been around for an awfully long time and never needed one before. Has something changed that drastically?

I hadn't heard about any of this. I don't get out much anymore, and am only on the air sporadically. Can we talk off-list about it? I feel a bit in the dark here.-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-73,Gwen, NG3POn Thu, Jan 7, 2021 at 10:52 PM Jay Silber <jay@...> wrote:Yes Gwen, a couple of things have happened over the past year that could leave the club liable. Jim,,
Thanks so much for your kind offer. At this point we have 5 folks on the committee (awaiting final confirmation) and they are people with lots of club experience and even experience writing codes of conduct. But you’ll have an opportunity to comment on our work when we get a drat everyone can look at. In the meantime, if you have suggestions, please don’t hesitate to send them along.
