The Vintage Computer Federation will hold their Swap Meet at Infoage in Wall Township, NJ.
Date is Saturday April 24th, 2021  (rain date is Sunday the 25th)
Time is 8am to 2pm

The venue is Infoage Museum where the New Jersey Antique Radio Club has their "Radio Technology Museum".  I've been to Infoage several times and always find it interesting.  The grounds are the old / decommissioned Camp Evans...  or go back further and the original building was a Marconi receive station.  Both NJ Antique Radio and Vintage Computer Federation have exhibits at Infoage.  This is over by the Shark River, or about an hour and a half from Philly.

And yes, the museum is open...  website says “And don’t forget to wear your mask; we require all our staff, volunteers, and visitors to follow CDC COVID-19 Protocols.”

To all Hams in the Delaware Valley,

The Zoom meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm on the First and Third Tuesday evenings of the month.  See link at the bottom of this email.

Look on the PWA "For Sale" page;

I ask everyone to take a full sheet of paper - 8-1/2 x 11 - and write your first name, call sign and either your email address or a phone number.  Please show it to us, when you display your equipment.  This will allow interested parties to contact you off the Zoom meeting.

I will go over the rules we have used for the PWA "on the air" Swap Net.
1;  No more than 3 items per person / per night.  There's always next week to bring up 3 more.
1a; Estates may show up to 6 items per night.
2;  No up front costs.  If your item does sell ??  then the seller will make a donation to the club.
3;  As per Fcc rules, no haggling on Zoom.  Mention the asking price and haggle on the phone.
4;  Make up a quickie email listing your items for that week.  Nothing long and drawn out.  Just the 3 items and be prepared to send it to anyone who asks...  not only people on the PWA email list.
5;  No number 5, four is enough.

Our objective is to offer a virtual place to sell items including estate radios, test equipment, radio parts and tools to local radio operators and builders in the tri-state area -- and not place items up on eBay, QTH, QRZ or other online auction houses where we need to pack and ship across country.  Sell local and make arrangements off the Zoom for local pickup.  We do not offer any warranty or guarantees of items sold other than "hey it's working" or "no it's not working".  Buyer beware and please don't shoot the messenger.  We are only here to offer an alternative to Hamfests until we get beyond the current virus.  We now see the Sussex Hamfest in Delaware is cancelled as well as Warminster and Sellersville.  Still in the planning stages are Mullica Hill (Sept) and Kimberton (July).

Mark  WA3QVU

Thank you to Steve (KB3ORG - PWA President) for allowing us to use his paid Zoom account so we don't run up against the 40 minute time-out.

Subject: W3AEH Estate Sales

As many of you know, both Dave Carrol (N2VUZ - RF Hill) and I have been selling off the Allen Lipkin (W3AEH) estate.  Most of these sales have been local occurring at each of our homes.  These are individual sales with mask on or lately the buyer tells us he's had the Covid shot(s).  ie; not 6 or more people hanging around the table as we often see at hamfests.

In addition, on March 12th Jayson and I took a number of items out to the Reading Radio Club meeting held at the Berks County Agricultural Center in Bernville (West side of Reading).  Reading RC have been back to meeting in person mainly because of the venue; a very large auditorium at the Agg Center with tables and chairs spread out more than 6ft apart.  Money collected that night was $66, with $7 going to the RRC.

Today, Easter Sunday, I took time to total up the cash received both at my house in Willow Grove and up at Dave's house in Telford.  The club commission (10 percent) will go to RF Hill for items sold in Telford and to Penn Wireless for items sold in Willow Grove.  I had one Warminster Club member who came down to NE Philly and purchased several items directly from the estate.  In that one case, 10 percent will go to the Warc treasurer.

We still have several items pending ($100 maybe?) and quite a few items to go thru before we can see light at the end of the tunnel.  Sarah (the widow) will have Allen's friend Ron Cohen (K3ZKO) come in and go thru multiple boxes in the basement front room.  There could be more radio items there but more likely it's just personal papers and maybe manuals.  We'll see..??

OK...  Can I have a drum roll please;
Dave has collected $400 in Telford with $40 going toward RF Hill.
I have collected $512 in Willow Grove with $52 going toward PWA.
Somewhere in the numbers I'll pull $10 to go toward Warc.

As I count the cash (less club commissions) I currently have $820 which as per Sarah's request will go to the ALS Foundation.

Thank you all for your "totally out of season non-hamfest" purchases.  We could not have raised this amount of money without you.  I will post a new notice for the "Philly Swap Net" on Zoom to be held this Tuesday evening at 7:30.

Wow.

I just want to let the Club know how lucky we are in this area (and
beyond) to have Amateurs who work in the Professional RF world and
give so freely to the Amateur Community.

Giving their Easter Saturday (cold) morning to help THIS CLUB.

Jeff, WN3A. His networks are where I started in the hobby. Got started
listening to N3KZ and it's cast of characters. Quickly bumped into
W3WAN and it's Allstar connected backend and talked all over the State
and the world. Listened (unworthy) to W3SBE until one day I had the
courage to key up. 147.270....monster. Roxborough, then Bucktown.
Available to the whole area. DMR, WR3IRS putting DMR RF all throughout
the area.

Rick, WC2K. If you wake up early enough you can hear Rick everyday on
South Jersey repeaters (and simplex). I've listened to Rick for years
on my ride in to work. Got to work with him virtually for the past few
years with the MS150. Hear him helping hams all the time with
antennas, radios, power supplies, and good information.

Well yesterday, got to meet them in person as they gave freely of
their time to help us address issues with the tower and the repeater.

Hard to imagine but they are *more* awesome in person than on the air
or in my imagination.

Consummate Professionals and extremely down to earth folks.

I cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me personally
in this hobby, and what they are currently doing for this Club.

I just want to let the club and everyone in the area know how
fortunate we are to have folks like this in our hobby.

Moon Bounce @ Project Diana in 2016

Jeff Golas aka BAGS aka KC3GJX

I mentioned at the end of the moon bounce talk that I got to use a -real- dish for moonbounce, and I finally found the pics. I don't remember all the names and such (I do have a nearly full recording of the presentation they did leading up to this), but a professor from Princeton University was looking to build a dish, and got into talks with Infoage at Camp Evans, where the original Project Diana dish was still there. They ended up having to remove the gearbox and ship it to (Texas?) to have it rebuilt, and now dish is back up and running. I believe it had a Kenwood HF (maybe a TS-2000) radio, and an ampflier at the center of the dish, with the dish itself providing some serious amount of gain.

Long story short, they repositioned the dish to aim it at the moon, so we all ran outside and watched this giant dish move around, and then we went back inside, they fine tuned it using an SDR, and people got an opportunity to transmit either as third party or using their call sign if licensed, to hear themselves echo off the moon, so KC3GJX, while it rolls off the tongue like bricks in a blender, got to be interplanetary for a moment ;-)

Later on they tuned around and were able to have a quick QSO with someone in Italy I believe (again using moon bounce), but it was fading in and out.

Here's a link to info about Project Diana: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Diana

Note that camp evans is now a museum called Infoage, that hosts a bunch of various clubs and groups that provide a bunch of interesting exhibits, and Infoage IS open on weekends. The project Diana site I do believe opens periodically to visitors but not sure how that works.

Congratulations to Cliff KC3PGT who has already been demonstrating his leadership through helping so many of us learn to operate with Winlink/Vara and FLDigi, digital sound card modes. I look forward to working with Cliff for years to come.

And Jay, you stepped in for these fraught pandemic times and took Philadelphia County ARES from the disarray after Harvey Kolodner WA3GTL/SK's sad Covid-19 death to the nascent relationship with the ARC and the energy and possibilities that Cliff now undertakes. Thank you.
